Fay Schlesinger in the Guardian dated Monday 19 th May 2008 reports on the attempt by a widow to obtain permission from the court in the absence of such permission from the regulatory body (the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority) to access sperm retrieved posthumously from her husband in order to undergo IVF treatment in an attempt to conceive the child that they had been planning prior to his death. Her case has been taken up by her local M P Vincent Cable, the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, who has tabled for discussion an amendment to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill currently passing through Parliament.
